The NHL playoffs continue as the Dallas Stars will face the Colorado Avalanche in the 2nd game of the series.
The Stars made a significant surprise as they won game 1 with a score of 5-3.
Dallas Stars Form
The Stars are a in a good form at the moment. Moreover, their offensive game has improved lately and that was there to be seen in game 1. However, the reality is that they rode on their luck as they scored two goals that the Avalanche goaltender should have saved. That was especially the case for the 2nd and for the 3rd goal. Yet, they are on a good scoring run as they scored 12 goals in their last 2 games. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if they can maintain that form against a strong Avalanche team.
On the offensive side of the game, the Stars score an average of 2.58 goals per game. And that is enough for the 26th spot in the league in scoring.
On the defensive side of the game, they are placed on the 2nd spot in the league as they concede an average of 2.52 goals per game.
Colorado Avalanche Form
The Avalanche are one of the better teams this season. They have a dynamic style of play and that was there to be seen in the first game. But they fell short as they were dropped in the first game of this series. Also, they lost Grubauer in the process. Colorado center Nathan MacKinnon scored a pair of goals with one assist and with those three points is the top scorer during the playoffs. Left-winger Gabriel Landeskog added a goal with one assist to round out the Avalanche scoring.
On the offensive side of the game, the Avalanche score an average of 3.37 goals per game which is the 4th best offensive record in the NHL.
On the defensive side of the ice, the Avalanche is conceding an average of 1.96 goals per game in their last 28 NHL games.
The Stars won their last three games against the Flames. And they were able to maintain that winning momentum as they won the 1st game of this series. However, the reality is that the Avalanche is still the better team. They are now quite aware that the Stars are a team that means businesses. I expect the Avalanche to bounce back, but the Stars have the winning momentum now. Take Dallas in this one.
