And it is that time of the year again. The long wait is over, the NHL is back in action! And for the first prediction, this season is the game between Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers.
The Jets are heading into this season after a solid performance last year in which they reached the playoffs. However, they were eliminated by the Blues in the first round. On the other side, the Rangers missed the playoffs as they finished on the 7th spot in the Metropolitan Division.
The Jets managed to finish on the second spot in the Central Division with a total of 99 points. Moreover, they fell 1 point short behind the Predators. Also, they managed to get into the playoffs for the 2nd season in a row.
However, Winnipeg was eliminated in six games by eventual champion St. Louis. However, the Jets are facing some problems as Dustin Byfuglien may be on the move in the next few days.
On the offensive side of the game, the Jets score an average of 3.29 goals per game. On the defensive side of the game, Winnipeg allowed an average of 2.96 goals per contest. Their main men last was Mark Schiefele as he scored 38 goals and 46 assists in total.
New York Rangers Form
The Rangers missed the playoffs last season. Moreover, they managed to get 78 points in total. And that was enough only for a spot above the last-placed Devils in the Metropolitan Division.
However, this season they signed Artemi Panarin from Columbus on a seven-year deal worth $81.5 million. New York also made business with the Jets as they got defenseman Jacob Trouba with the goal to tighten up their defensive line. Combined with Kaapo Kakko, the Rangers have a better team this season.
On the offensive side of the game, the Rangers score an average of 2.70 goals per game which is the 23rd record in the league in scoring.
On the defensive side of the game, the Rangers conceded an average of 3.26 goals per game. Mika Zibannejad was their main men last season as he scored 30 goals and 44 assists.
The Rangers managed to reinforce the team this season. Also, it seems that their core is more talented compared to last season. However, the Jets are the better team and they managed to hold on to their key players. Therefore, I expect a win for Winnipeg in this opening game of the NHL season.
