The NHL is back in action today as the N.Y Islanders will clash with the Washington Capitals.
N.Y surprised many with their 3-0 in the first 3 games. But the Capitals are an experienced team and they won the 4th game to stay in the series.
N.Y Islanders Form
The Islanders were in commanding form as they won three games in the row against a strong team such as the Capitals. However, they were not able to close down the series as they were defeated in game 4.
Despite scoring twice in the opening period, the Islanders were unable to hold onto their 2-0 lead and eliminate the Capitals on Tuesday. Their goaltender Semyon Varlamov made 26 saves on the night but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 Islanders’ defeat.
On the offensive side of the game, the Islanders score an average of 2.78 goals per game and their powerplay conversions stand at 17.3%. On the defensive end of the ice, they finished at 9th in goals allowed at 2.79 goals per game.
Washington Capitals Form
The Capitals are a team that is under pressure at the moment. Moreover, losing the first 3 games of this series came as a shock to them. Yet, they managed to respond in game 4.
Washington scored three goals to steal the game after being 2-0 behind. Evgeny Kuznetsov got the Capitals on the board and Alex Ovechkin scored twice to propel the Capitals to victory. Ovechkin was at the forefront of the Capitals’ comeback
On the offensive side of the game, the Capitals are placed on the 2nd spot in the league in scoring with 3.42 goals per game. Also, they are 17th in powerplay conversions at 19.4%. On the defensive end of the ice, they were placed on the 18th spot in goals allowed at 3.07 goals per game.
This is a complex game that can go both ways. However, I expect that the Capitals will be able to win this game in order to get back into the series. But make no mistake, Ovechkin and his teammates will have a hard against a top-class goaltender such as Varlamov. Therefore, my pick for this game is Under 5 Full game total pick.
